Day 1

BRAINERD – LINCOLN

Depart Brainerd and travel to Lincoln, Nebraska. Enjoy dinner at Screamers Cabaret tonight. (L D)

Day 2

LINCOLN – COLORADO SPRINGS

Travel across Nebraska & visit the Golden Spike Tower overlooking the largest railyard in the USA! (B L)

Day 3

COLORADO SPRINGS

Today we visit the stunning Garden of the Gods, a 1,300+ acre park where flora and fauna reflect the rich diversity of the terrain and red sandstone formations tell a unique geological story. This afternoon we tour the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, where athletes from all over the USA come to train for all Olympic sports. Tonight we enjoy a special treat at the Flying W Ranch for a chuckwagon dinner and singing cowboys! (B L D)

Day 4

COLORADO SPRINGS – ALAMOSA

Today we head into the mountains for a special treat—a journey by train aboard the Royal Gorge Route. We ride through the “Grand Canyon of the Arkansas” on an unforgettable journey over the famous Hanging Bridge, which clings precariously to the steep granite walls of Royal Gorge. Later we enjoy a view from the top of Royal Gorge from the highest suspension bridge in the world. We overnight in nearby Alamosa, Colorado. (B D)

Day 5

ALAMOSA – DURANGO

You’re in for a treat today, as we travel one of the most scenic railways in the USA—the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad. This amazing train snakes its way over the desert and through the mountains to New Mexico. Upon our arrival in Chama, we’ll head to Durango, Colorado for two nights. (B L)

Day 6

MESA VERDE

This morning we’ll have a guided tour of Mesa Verde National Park to see the well-preserved cliff dwellings of the Pueblo Indians, dating back to 1200 A.D. Tonight enjoy a great meal and entertainment beneath Ponderosa pines at the Bar D Chuckwagon Show. (B L D)

Day 7

DURANGO – GRAND JUNCTION

Another magnificent day is yours as we journey aboard the Durango & Silverton Scenic Railroad—voted the #1 scenic train in the USA! Step back in time and enjoy a leisurely excursion to yesteryear onboard this historic train bound for Silverton, Colorado, a small town steeped in western history. After some free time in Silverton, we journey onward to Grand Junction for the evening. (B)

 

Day 8

GRAND JUNCTION – DENVER

After breakfast this morning, we board Amtrak’s California Zephyr for the trip to Denver! Experienced travellers say it’s the most beautiful train trip in all of North America…and as you climb to the sky through the heart of the Rocky Mountains you’ll find it hard to disagree. For you railfans, we also journey through historic Moffat Tunnel! This tunnel is 6.2 miles long and takes approximately 15 minutes to go through. We transfer to our Denver area hotel upon arrival. (B)

Day 9

DENVER – COUNCIL BLUFFS

Traveling across Nebraska, we’re off to Council Bluffs for the evening. (B)

Day 10

COUNCIL BLUFFS – BRAINERD

Travel to Brainerd today with an included farewell lunch. (B L)
