Day 1
BRAINERD – ESCANABA
We’re off to enjoy the beauty and splendor of the great north country when we board our motorcoach this morning on our way to Mackinac Island. Our route takes us northward through Duluth on to Escanaba, MI where we will spend this evening. (D)
Day 2
ESCANABA – MACKINAC ISLAND
This morning we board our motorcoach and travel eastward through Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Upon arrival in Saint Ignace, Michigan we will board a ferry for a short cruise across the Straits of Mackinac to the “Bermuda of the North”—Mackinac Island. We spend the next two evenings on Mackinac Island at the Murray Hotel! Enjoy!! (B)
Day 3
MACKINAC ISLAND
Enjoy the morning on a Mackinac Island Guided Carriage Tour. On our tour we will see the Governor’s Mansion, the Arched Rock, the stately Grand Hotel and much more! After the tour we will visit Fort Mackinac. The cannon blasts, the rifles fire, the soldiers march and history comes alive. The oldest building in Michigan boasts exhibits explaining everything from military training to medical treatments to family life within the fort. The rest of the afternoon is yours to enjoy—our hotel is in the downtown area so that everything is handy for you to enjoy this evening! Visit the shops, sample Mackinac’s famous fudge or simply relax and watch the action on Main Street. (B)
Day 4
MACKINAC ISLAND – MARQUETTE
After our short ferry ride across Lake Huron to Mackinaw City, we’ll cross the Mackinac Bridge—the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere! The Mackinac Bridge, affectionately known as “Mighty Mac”, is more than a marvel of engineering connecting Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The bridge’s majestic presence has woven itself into the fabric of Michigan’s identity, bridging not just land but also the hearts and minds of those who reside in or visit this picturesque state. Then it’s on to Munising for an included lunch. After, we board a cruise boat to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (weather permitting). The name “Pictured Rocks” comes from streaks of mineral stain that decorate the face of the weather-sculpted sandstone. Stunning colors occur when groundwater seeps out of cracks and trickles down the rock face. Iron (red and orange), copper (blue and green), manganese (brown and black), and limonite (white) are among the most common color-producing minerals. We overnight in nearby Marquette, Michigan (B L)
Day 5
MARQUETTE – BRAINERD
We travel to Bayfield for a delicious lunch at the Rittenhouse Inn! Then we’re headed for home, where we can share the memories of new friends and Mackinac Island. (B L)
