Day 1+2
BRAINERD – LISBON
Arrival at Lisbon airport and transfer to our hotel. Enjoy a Tour of Lisbon with a visit to its historical quarters, the Alfama and Baixa. Visit the Praca do Comercio square, along with the Avenida da Liberdade, followed by the Pombal square. This evening visit a local establishment to enjoy a traditional Portuguese Fado Music Dinner. (B D)
Day 3
LISBON
Today we discover the Tower of Belem and monument to the discoveries. Later we visit the Jeronimos Monastery to see the tomb of Vasco da Gama, Portugal’s most famous explorer. Afterwards free time in the afternoon to stroll around the old Alfama quarter. (B)
Day 4
LISBON – EVORA
This morning we make a stop at a local Cork Farm to discover how this material is harvested and processed. Enjoy a Wine Tasting & Lunch at a local vineyard. After lunch, we head towards the town of Evora—a Unesco World Heritage Site and renowned for its medieval history. We pay a visit to the Church of Saint Francis where we will enter the eerie “Chapel of Bones”— A chapel decorated with the remains of 5,000 bones. Enjoy free time to explore the cobbled streets of Evora this evening. (B L)
Day 5
EVORA – COIMBRA
Our first stop today is a visit to the town of Tomar, Home of the Knights Templar. We will visit the Convento de Cristo that is within the walls of the fortress surrounding the town, where we discover the origins and history of the Knights Templar and the peculiar history about this fascinating order. Later on in the afternoon we head to Coimbra, Portugal’s charming college town and home to one of Europe’s oldest universities. (B)
Day 6
COIMBRA – PORTO
After a lazy morning, we head towards Portugal’s wine region—the Duero. Home to rolling hills and slopes brimming with vineyards, this infamous region produces some of Europe’s best wines. Enjoy a Wine Estate Tasting and Lunch. Afterwards we take a relaxing short Cruise Across the Duero River. We finish our evening in Porto, Portugal’s second largest city and considered one of Europe’s most amazing and delightful wine cities. (B L)
Day 7
PORTO
After breakfast it’s time to explore the fascinating streets of Porto on a walking tour. A Unesco World Heritage Site, we visit the Porto Cathedral followed by a visit to the impressive Dona Maria Pia Bridge, designed by Gustave Eiffel, Architect of the Eiffel Tower. After lunch, we visit one of the city’s renowned Port Wine Cellars, where we learn how this savory fortified wine is made. (B)
Day 8
PORTO – SINTRA
We depart Porto and head south to Nazares, Portugal’s seafood capital, where you can enjoy a delightful seafood lunch. Continue south and visit Fim Do Mundo, known for centuries as the world’s corner, Fim do Mundo is the westernmost point in Mainland Europe. We end in Sintra for two nights. (B D)
Day 9
SINTRA
Sintra’s charm has been an enigma for thousands of years since the time of the Celts and Moorish rule. We visit palaces like the Quinta da Regaleira and Pena National Palace, all brimming with colorful rooms & lush gardens. (B D)
Day 10
SINTRA – BRAINERD
This morning we transfer to the Lisbon airport for our flight home to Minnesota. (B)
